Shalaine grew up watching her dad play in a band with his buddies, and that lit the flame in her heart! The first time she was invited to play on stage with his band when she was 6, she was hooked! She took every opportunity available to get on stage with dance, musical theatre, choral, band, etc. After she graduated high school, while music was in her heart, it was not in the cards at that moment. She got her hairdressing license, and music took the back burner. No matter what she did though, she still felt like she was missing something! She inherited her grandpas old guitar, and in her mid 20’s she taught herself how to play! She started playing with an “old fart” band, a group of mostly retired musicians that played at seniors homes and hospitals. They taught her so much about music, and gave her the confidence to get up and play for herself! When 2020 came around, the band dismembered, but that didn’t stop her! After her husband was laid off and fell into a dark place, that inspired her to write her first song, “As Strong As Your Daddy”. It was a love song to her son about men’s mental illness, and the response from friends, family, and Facebook inspired her to keep writing! Now when she plays live, her biggest fan, her dad, is usually behind her keeping the beat and taking a little sass! It is such a special relationship and she is so proud of it!
